Revised electricity tariffs to take effect on Monday - NERC
Abuja - The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has announced that new tariff prices that have bee approved by the company are due to take effect on Monday, Punch has reported.Dr. Anthony Akah, NERC Chairman, stated that a lack of cost-reflective tariffs have hindered the acquirement of infrastructure for electricity companies, saying that new tariffs would ensure accountability.
Akah revealed that under the new Multi-Year Tariff Order (MYTO) all premises will be metered, with consumers who subscribe to specific metering models having to be supplied within 60 days, following which they would be disconnected or charged on estimation.
According to Akah, his visit to the National Orientation Agency in Abuja marks an approach to create public awareness around the new tariffs, which are due to be introduced on February 1.
