Buhari, Jonathan in war of words over arms purchase

Abuja - President Muhammadu Buhari and his immediate predecessor in office, Goodluck Jonathan on Thursday exchanged words over the purchase of arms during the last administration, reports NewsDay.
Jonathan in an interview with France 24 said his government laid a solid foundation for terrorism to be defeated.
He said most of the equipment President Muhammadu Buhari is using to prosecute the war against Boko Haram are those equipment procured by his administration.

Jonathan said the Boko Haram insurgency caught the country unaware during his tenure but his administration was able to built reasonable capacity to defeat the threat.
He said he believes that with the equipment his administration acquired and the ones the current administration will buy, the war of terror will be prosecuted to a reasonable conclusion.
But in a swift reaction, President Buhari said the current government could not prosecute the war against insurgency with arms bought by the Jonathan-led administration.
He said most of the equipment acquired by Jonathan were junk.
Buhari, who spoke through his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu said Jonathan did not get the correct briefing on the state of the equipment his administration bought.
Buhari said from the revelations of the procurement investigation committee now going on, it is clear that Jonathan’s government was misadvised in its procurement processes.
